Who can become a member?
Membership in the corporation is open to individuals who are at least 18 years old, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons, and residents of specified areas, including Mareeba town and its surrounding districts, including Dimbulah, Biboohra, Mount Molloy and Chillagoe, for at least six months.
Becoming a member
The application process involves completing a form and agreeing to follow the corporation’s rules. The board of directors reviews applications and may request further evidence of eligibility.
Membership rights
Members have rights such as proposing resolutions and attending general meetings but cannot use the corporation’s name for political purposes without approval. A register of members is maintained, containing relevant details and must be accessible at the annual general meeting.
Responsibilities
Member Responsibilities include following the rules, notifying address changes, and treating other members respectfully.
Membership can cease through resignation, death, relocation, or cancellation. The cancellation process varies depending on circumstances and requires adherence to specific procedures.
